Top Things 09/17/12

Hey guys! How are you all doing? I’m doing pretty great, because a kid told me I look like David Beckham today. I know it’s not true, but it still made me all warm inside, so I’ll take it. PLUS I’m working again, which means I’m getting money in the bank which is NEVER a bad thing. AND to top it all off, we are THAT MUCH CLOSER TO LOOPER which is basically the only movie I’m looking forward to for the next year and better not suck or I will literally DIE.

Anyway, let’s get to my Top Things happening this week!

I’m not normally one to read fantasy set in the real world, but Stormdancer by Jay Kristoff has actually caught my eye. Maybe it’s because it’s set in feudal Japan rather than medieval England, which makes it that much more unique. Plus, it works in the competition between magic and technology, which is totally on my mind after watching Legend of Korra this summer. You can read about it here.

Like the rest of the month, DC is releasing its Zero Issues, which focus on the origins of its heroes and teams. Wonder Woman #0 features Ares, one of Diana’s oldest and most-recurrent foes. It will be interesting to see if it explains his current appearance as ragged old man, rather than the ripped and scarred warrior of yesteryear. PLUS, any additional information on last month’s shocking turn of events would be welcome.

There are two movies coming out this week I might conceivably see. The first, The Perks of Being a Wallflower stars Emma Watson, so that’s half the reason right there. That being said, it’s based on a book I’ve never read, so I can’t enthusiastically endorse it.

The other is Dredd, starring Karl Urban. It’s a remake of the previous Judge Dredd, starring Sylvester Stallone, which I have not seen, based on the comic of the same name – which I have not read. I ordinarily wouldn’t be that interested, but Karl Urban is a pretty decent actor, and early reviews have actually been relatively positive. So… maybe.

KILLERS. KILLERS. KILLERS. KILLERS. P.S. – There’s a new Killers album, and I couldn’t be more excited.

Downton Abbey is back you guys! Downton Abbey is back! And while technically it’s only back in the U.K., this is the 21st century, and anything is available via the Internet. Not that I’m promoting that or anything. NOPE. NEVER DO THAT.

And that’s it! I want to write something about comics this week, because I forgot to earlier this month. And hopefully we’ll see a new post from Ben and/or Christin! Until then, may all your dreams be Poppins-free!
